Bare root fruit trees, berries, and ornamental trees

Our bare root fruit trees, berries and ornamental trees started arriving in late May and we’ve got hundreds of great varieties for you to choose from.

Bare root fruit tree prices start from $24.95, and you’ll receive a 10% discount when you buy any 5 or more trees. Likewise, if you buy any 5 or more bare root ornamental trees, you’ll also receive 10% off.

Inspect your tree before you purchase

Unlike most other nurseries, our bare root trees aren’t sold pre-bagged, and they sit out in the fresh winter air in bins with their roots covered in moist, aged sawdust.

This means you can check the roots of any of our trees before we bag them for you, so there won’t be any surprises with poor and dried out root systems when you get home.

We’ll even prune and teach you how

It’s a great idea to prune bare root trees before you plant them. This is so the tree develops a good looking shape and structure, and to ensure the tree’s root system can properly support its canopy.

If you’ve never pruned a tree before then no problem – our friendly staff will show you how and even prune it for you.

What bare root fruit tree varieties are available?

Take a look at our bare root fruit tree varieties page for info on what’s available in 2017. Please note that some varieties sell out well before the end of the season.

Where does your bare root stock come from?

Most of our bare root stock is sourced from Tasmanian Fruit Tree Growers and Fleming’s Nurseries Victoria.

Citrus orders for 2017

Our second delivery of potted citrus for the season has just arrived from Victoria.

This season our standard 25cm potted citrus are $49.95 each. Buy any 3 and save 10%.

If possible, come in and grab your stock early or contact us to place an order now and we can have it ready for you to collect.

When do fresh citrus deliveries arrive?

Each year we get three deliveries from our supplier, the first being in early May, and the last in September. The September delivery has to last to May next year but rarely makes it past Christmas before we are sold out.

Due to high demand Australia-wide for our supplier’s stock, some varieties will likely be sold out before September/October. So, it’s a great idea to get in early to avoid disappointment.

Note: citrus is evergreen and isn’t available bare root.

ScreenMaster Pittosporums

Did you know that Greenhill Nursery is the only licenced propagator and grower of ScreenMaster Pittosporums in Tasmania?

The ScreenMaster is considered a superior pittosporum to Silver Sheen and James Sterling, with a stronger growth rate and slightly thicker stems that make them a tougher plant for your garden.

They can grow up to 1 metre per year but they are best grown in a well-drained area. If your garden is a little damp then just mound up the soil to a height of 15cm and plant your new plants into the mound. Space your plants 1 metre apart, or 75cm for a quicker result.

Why buy ScreenMaster pittosporums from Greenhill Nursery?

You may find cheaper and taller ScreenMaster for sale in other nurseries, but these plants will have been imported from the mainland and are generally grown under inferior conditions.

Many mainland nurseries force grow their pittosporums under cover and feed them loads of fertiliser to make them tall and spindly.

At Greenhill Nursery we grow all of our ScreenMaster pittosporums outside in the cold mountain air which makes them hardy plants, and well adapted to Tasmanian conditions.

This means you should get a great result by sourcing your ScreenMaster from Greenhill!
